Why Verifying Journal Indexing Matters

Why indexing matters: In the Indian medical academic system, publication in journals indexed in approved databases (such as PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, Web of Science, DOAJ, etc.) is a mandatory requirement under NMC (National Medical Commission) guidelines for faculty promotions.

Risk of non-indexed journals: If a faculty member publishes in a journal that does not fulfil NMC indexing criteria, that publication will not be counted for promotion — leading to denial or delay in career advancement.

False claims by some journals: A growing number of journals falsely claim to be indexed in reputed databases when they are not. Relying on such journals can waste effort and money, and put academic growth at risk.
